Underrated Instrumental Bands
Downtown Music Mountain #2
I'll admit, at first I wasn't a big fan of instrumental bands. A band with no vocals? Nothing I can sing along to? How can anyone get into this? But after giving bands like Chon, Save Us From The Archon, and Covet a chance, I noticed that instrumentals in songs are usually so taken for granted. Three new instrumental bands inspired me to show off the underrated talent they have: Fox Vibes, Sincerely, and Elders. Check out my summaries of them below and make sure to show them love!
Fox Vibes
From Leominster, Massachusetts
Latest Release: Mantra EP (July 14th, 2017)
What makes Fox Vibes so impressive, is the fact that they are essentially a solo project by Anthony Cepeda Jr. Creating a plethora of jazz metal fusion sounds. This band is for fans of Strawberry Girls and Chon for sure, but do not mistake them for clones by any means. The guitar/bass tracking is so all over the place (in a good way), that it makes you wonder how one man does it all. I have to hand it to Anthony for the drummer he chose for Mantra. Beating the hell out of the drums, Anthony Lusk-Simone absolutely makes the songs feel so hard hitting. Something you can dance to, something you can headbang to, do not sleep on this newcomer to the scene.
Sincerely
From Detroit, Michigan
Latest Release: King Weather (Single)
Sincerely was the first of the three bands on here that I heard. At the time, I was really wanting to find instrumental rock bands that had the same groove that Chon had. I definitely got more than I bargained for from this 4-piece band. Their newest single actually inspired me to make this blog post. While they haven't actually released an EP or album yet, I promise myself I'll be checking it out day one when they do. Like Fox Vibes, the drums really do their songs justice. I didn't really notice this until the beginning of their second single, Aware Wolf. Arguably the grooviest band on this list, they are one of the prime examples I have found that you don't need vocals to rock.
Elders
From Davie, Florida
Latest Release: Self Titled EP (January 21st, 2017)
Last but not least (don't consider any of these bands to be the least), is yet another groovy instrumental band. I'd say Elders is more math rock than the other two though. Like Strawberry Girls, I think guitar and bass are their biggest strengths. These guys are probably the ones I'd most be interested to hear vocals on. But then again, I wouldn't want anything to take away from the smooth funk riffs. Such a shame they only have five songs for sure. I'm totally fascinated to see what these Florida boys can put out next.
